12th Annual Holten-Richmond Middle School Spelling Bee

And the winner is…

8th grader Muhammed Cham was the winner of this year’s virtual Holten-Richmond Middle School Spelling Bee on January 26th. He survived 11 rounds and spelled authority for the win. Fellow 8th grader KC Jimenez was the runner up. Muhammed must now take a written test to qualify for the Lynn Daily Item Regional Bee on February 12 and the opportunity to participate in the Scripps National Spelling Bee.

HRMS Language Arts teacher Jessica Bouchard was the MC for the evening, indicating to spellers whether or not the word to be spelled had a homonym and, if so, giving the definition of the word to be spelled. She also responded to speller requests for a definition, sentence, part of speech or language of origin. Judging duties were ably handled by Assistant Superintendent Mary Wermers, HRMS Curriculum Director Ellyn Feerick, Principal Adam Federico, Assistant Principal Julie Sgroi, and teachers John Hodsdon and Ruth Sidhly.
